I-READ 3

This March, students in grade 3 will take the statewide assessment called IREAD-3. The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with Public Law 109 which "requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four". You can review IREAD-3 information by visiting the IDOE website at www.doe.in.gov./achievement/assessement/iread-3

The school day begins at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m.

Everyday Math Parent Night
Thank you to the many parents who attended our Everyday Math Parent Night.  It was a great opportunity for us to relay important information to you, and we collected many questions at the end.  For the answers to these questions, please continue to check the White River Newsletters for a new section titled "Everyday Math Corner".  If you were unable to attend the parent night, please view the appropriate PowerPoint presentations below to gain more information about Everyday math from a grades K-2 and 3-5 perspective.

Update Wellness Policy
Noblesville Schools has amended the district’s Wellness Policy (8510). The changes to the policy can be found at www.noblesvilleschools.org. The following changes will be implemented to begin this 2012-2013 school year:
  • Student birthdays will not be celebrated with food items. Teachers may choose to celebrate birthdays with non-food items or student recognition.
  • The use of food and/or beverages as incentives and rewards for students should be used sparingly, and approved by the principal/designee. Classrooms may hold a maximum of two reward parties (pizza party popcorn party) per semester.

Parent Participation
Parents are a vital part of the White River Team. We welcome and encourage parents to become an active part of our learning environment. Volunteer opportunities are numerous at White River Elementary – in classrooms, in the media center, for PTO events, for field trips, and many more. Watch our school, classroom, and PTO newsletters for information on upcoming volunteer opportunities.

School Newsletters
Our school newsletter is delivered electronically every other Friday to every family with an email address on file in the school office. To view the current edition or past editions of the bi-monthly White River newsletter, please select the “News,” tab near the top of the page.

SOAR
White River Elementary has high expectations for students – this includes high expectations for how students conduct themselves while at school! Teachers will spend time at the beginning of the year teaching students to SOAR. SOAR stands for the four major behavior expectations at White River. S = Safety; O = Organization; A = Act Responsibly; and R = Respect. School staff members watch for students who SOAR at our school and recognize them with a SOAR ticket. Be sure to celebrate with your child when they tell you they earned a SOAR ticket!

We are looking forward to another successful school year! Thanks for all you do to support our school!
